Letters from the Dead pt. 62

When I was finally able to pull the bag off I found myself in a small, concrete room.  There were no windows, and only one door.  The only light was a bare, overhead bulb. The room was almost completely bare, except for one thing.

Hanging on the far wall, chains straining under its weight, was a large crucifix.

I rushed to the door, the shock of Leah’s death fading. I tried the handle.
It was locked.
I was trapped.

Alone.

No… there was someone with me.
I could sense them, but not see them.

“I’ve waited so long for you Felicia.”

I turned, and standing next to the cross was Cherish.

Eye See You: Randy Connects pt. 10

There is urgency to his movements.  There are no soft caresses, and no gentle touches.  When he senses my compliance he takes over.

I lose myself in his passion.  I let the heat wash away my doubts and questions about him.

I feel his teeth nip at my nipple and I suck in breath, my mind focused only on the present.  Every single move he makes draws me farther and farther out of my own head.

The sex doesn’t last long.  We both burn hot and quick, and when it is over I feel wonderfully blank.  In the afterglow my mind is a haze.

I still love him.

My eyes catch sight of that Bluetooth earpiece now sitting on his dresser.

I still love him.

I just don’t know if I fully trust him anymore.

Ruins pt. 30

After brief introductions, Alana leads us down what had once been Ogden Avenue, but was now nothing more then a densely wooded, gravel path.

A mighty forest, she explained, had overtaken the whole area.
The trees and growth supplied them not only food, but also protection.

The demons never ventured past Downer’s Grove.
The forests covered several towns, with Wheaton at its center.
Aurora to the west, and most of Naperville to the south, were wastelands, but the Forest, as she called it, remained alive and healthy.

They people who lived here barely ventured out, but occasionally they were forced to find food on the edges, where some demons could still appear.

That explained the knife.

The walk would only be a couple of hours until we reached her town.
For the first time in a long time, I relaxed.
I could sense a calm in Kay as well.

It was Doug who still had his guard up.

What did he sense that I didn’t?

Eye See You: Randy Connects pt. 9

I lay next to Luke, surprised at how distant I feel.
When this all started he was my rock.  He was my strength.
Now…

Something in Luke had shifted.  I don’t know when it happened, but slowly that warmth in his eyes seemed to vanish.

Well, it didn’t vanish entirely.
When he looks at me, I can still sense it.
When he looks at Bella or Dave, though…

He kisses me.
“What are you thinking about?”

I tell him nothing, and everything.

“How about I help calm that brain of yours.”
He pulls closer, and I feel the heat of his body next to mine.

I can’t help it.
I respond. My body responds. My lips touch his, and then I lose all control.
I give in to him, and he seems to devour me.

Letters from the Dead pt. 61

When I heard the knock at the door I assumed it was the police. Someone had to have heard me.

I opened the door, still in shock, unable to even think of an excuse, a lie… nothing. I was blank.

I had just killed my best friend. My best friend had been trying to kill me.
My best friend had been the reason a young man had died, and that several other students… children… were now about to face the same fate.

I opened the door, and saw a man standing there. A man with a hawkish face, and frosted tips was on my doorstep.

Howie Moore smiled at me, and then a black, cloth bag suddenly went over my head.
I didn’t fight.
I had no fight left in me.

Let them have me.

Letters from the Dead pt. 60

The fight was over before it even really began.

Leah lunged at me, and I reached up, pushing her away.  She was off balance, and she fell.
I heard her head collide with the corner of my dresser. The sound was a mix between a crack and a splat.

She hit my carpet with a soft thud, and then she was just… still.  Her eyes were open, looking up at the ceiling, not really seeing anything.

There was blood, too.
It didn’t splatter, or spill… it leaked out of her skull. Slowly it began to seep into the carpet, creating a widening stain.

I realized I wasn’t breathing.

Then I screamed.
