When Kurt woke up, he
didn’t have any idea how long he had been asleep. It couldn’t have been very long. Sunlight still poked through from under the
curtains of their bedroom. For a brief
moment, as his brain still hovered on the edge of sleep, he was able to forget
everything he had seen that afternoon.
For that moment it was
just him, in bed with the man he loved.
He leaned over, gently kissing Bobby’s shoulder. He
hand gently rested on the curve of Bobby’s side, and he could feel his
boyfriend’s warmth beneath his hand.
Bobby stirred, his eyes
fluttering open. He smiled. It wasn’t forced, or for show. It was a genuine smile, something Kurt feared
he would never see again.
They kissed, gently at
first, then again with more passion. How
long had it been since they had made love?
How long had it been since they had allowed each other the freedom of
intimacy?
Their bodies moved not by
want, but by need. They needed to feel
each other close, to feel the safety of each other’s bodies, of their flesh
being united. At that moment, the purpose
was not sexual fulfillment, but instead a connection that neither of them had
allowed each other for far too long.
When they were done,
their bodies even more tired then before, the memories returned. The reality of their situation seemed to
creep in, like a dread filled fog.
Still, Kurt refused to feel guilty for what they had just done. They had made love because they needed to
heal. They needed to feel that they were
still connected in a way that their shared pain had refused to allow them.
They didn’t speak, and
instead just lay there, entwined in each other.
There was so much that Kurt wanted to say, but he knew that the words
could never be as strong as their embrace was.
Bobby broke the silence
first. “Something inside of you is
changing. I can sense it.”
Kurt leaned in, resting
his forehead against Bobby’s. “I’m not
changing. I’m still the same Kurt you
met over two years ago.”
Bobby smiled again. “That’s not what I meant. You… you are developing your own powers, your
own strength. Just like Ashtyn did.” He reached out, stroking Kurt’s cheek. “No matter how strong you grow, though, I
will still always worry about you. I
would give my life for you, Kurt.”
“No more talking shop.” Kurt pressed a finger against Bobby’s
lips. “That will all still be there when
we get out of bed. For right now, let’s
just enjoy the brief moment of peace we have managed to find. In here, in our bed, we are no longer a part
of our pasts, and we won’t worry about the future. Right here, right now we will focus on our
present. On us.”
Bobby buried his head in
Kurt’s chest, nuzzling close. “You are
my past, my present and my future.
Without you, there is nothing.”
Kurt laughed. He couldn’t help it. He knew Bobby meant what he had said, and he
agreed with him. He felt the same
way. Still, hearing those words out loud
seemed so… cheesy. The laughter
continued. Just as crying had been a
release earlier, so was the laughter now.
Within minutes both of them were laughing until their sides hurt. It wasn’t that anything was particularly funny. It was just the release, the emotional
expulsion of everything that had been building up inside.
They stopped when they
heard a knock on the door. Pulling the
blankets up high enough to hide their naked bodies, they both sat up.
“Come in.” Kurt was shocked at how relaxed his voice
sounded.
Ashtyn cracked the door
open, but she didn’t peak inside. “I
know we all are dealing with our own mental shit right now, but we need to get
moving. The longer we wait, the stronger
Grath could be getting.”
Kurt knew their little
escape couldn’t last, and it hurt to have it pulled away from him so quickly,
but she was right. The time to heal had
passed, and the time to act was upon them.
Ashtyn closed the door,
and Bobby and Kurt got dressed, the smiles and laughter left in the only place
they were safe, in their bed.
