After they had gotten Nando an ice pack, and had ushered him
off to his bedroom, Gus sat down on the couch in the living room with
Missy.
She was his guardian angel.
He had no idea that those things even existed, let alone that he had
one. Yet, here she was, in the flesh and
sitting on his couch, and she was a cheerleader. A fricken cheerleader.
He had nothing against cheerleaders. He found them cute, sure, but honestly, he
had never really seen the point in their staccato, perky routines, or their
simplistic chants. He had always just
kind of avoided that kind of stuff. Now
he couldn’t avoid it, because that stuff was now on a quest to find him true
love.
“So, is this like a make over thing, or something?” Gus looked down at his clothes.
“No. I mean, that
might be a part of it.” Missy gave him a
once over. “Well, it most likely will be
a part of it, but this is about something bigger then just getting you
laid. This is about finding you your
one.”
His one? Did he have
a one? Was it possible that there was
someone out there who was meant for him, and he was now destined to find
her? What if he didn’t? What if he had already passed her right by,
and…
Missy’s hand thunked hard against the back of his head. “Stop.”
“Stop what?” He was
surprised at how much that thunk had hurt.
“Overthinking.” She
squinted her eyes at him. “I can see it
your face. I say something, and then
your mind takes off like a rocket. “
Suddenly she hopped to her feet. “That’s
it! Our first goal is to get you to
lighten up!”
“Good luck with that.”
Nando’s muffled voice echoed out of his room.
“Huh?” Missy turned
towards the bedroom.
Nando shambled into the doorway, his nose already turning a
deep shade of purple. “I’ve been trying
to get Mr. Tightly Wound to loosen up for years. Still, he remains so clenched that might
implode.”
“Clenched?” Missy
scratched her head.
Nando made a grunting noise, and squeezed his butt cheeks
super tight.
“Oh!”
Gus just sat there, watching them. Was he really that uptight? Sure, Nando sometimes called him a buzzkill,
but that didn’t really mean anything, did it?
He had never really been all that social, but that was just because…
THUNK!
“Ow!” Gus rubbed his
head. “That really hurt.”
It was Nando who had hit him that time. “Now, you are going to listen to what the
nice angel has to say, and finally get that fence post removed from your
ass. Got it?”
“That… sounds painful.”
Missy was looking at him oddly.
“It’s a figure of speech, sweetie.” Nando smiled.
His roommate turned his attention back to him. “You need to lighten up, and I think she may
be the perfect person to help you with that.
I mean, look at her, she’s so light she can freaking fly!”
“I’m bubbly, too,” Missy chirped.
Gus could feel his mind start to pick up speed, but he knew
that if he started into his normal, rapid fire questions he would get hit
again. “Fine.”
“Aww, he’s learning already!” Nando clapped his hands. “My little, straight brother from another
mother is finally going to get himself a proper lady friend.” He turned to Missy, “and if you find any
daddy bears, send them my way. You know,
as extra credit.”
“Daddy bears?” Missy
cocked her head to the side, almost resembling a confused dog.
“I’ll explain later.”
Nando smiled.
Within minutes Nando and Missy had gone from graphic
violence to best friends. Now he not
only had his guardian angel out to change his life, but his best
friend/roommate getting in on the mix.
He was doomed. Oh so
doomed.
