“Over here!”
One of the men is
screaming, waving his hands over his head.
I rush to him, part of me
excited at what he could have found.
The other part of me was
dreading what he had discovered.
Dread was my baseline
emotion.
As I draw closer I can
see that his eyes are wide, panicked.
The excitement fades.
The dread grows.
My pace quickens.
I already know what he
has found. I can sense it in the way he
looks at me, at the others.
Are numbers are growing
fewer.
