A Dark Lesson pt. 13

When Amanda woke up it took her a moment to realize that she was in her apartment.  Something felt wrong, though.  Her bed felt… it felt small.  She reached over to her nightstand and flipped on her light.
The bed was small.  How the hell had it shrunk from a King to a twin while she was sleeping?
She got out of bed, stumbling out of her room, and into the living room.  “Matt? Matt, what the hell is…”
She froze.  There was something wrong in this room, too.  Things were missing.  Things were… there were no pictures anymore.  At least, there were no pictures of her and Matt.  She looked above the fireplace, where she had put a framed picture of them from two years ago.  It was gone.
“Matt?” She wandered around the room as if in a drunken haze.  What the hell was going on?
First no one at the Center remembered Debbie, and now… and now it looked like Matt had never lived In their apartment.  The more she looked the more she noticed that everything that he had added to the space, everything that made it clear that he had lived there, was gone.
She felt the urge to grab her cellphone, to call someone and ask them where he had gone, or what had happened to all his things, but she already knew what they would say.  They would tell her that they didn’t know who Matt was.  To everyone else Matt never existed.
She needed to call someone, she needed help.
Clare! Clare would believe her.  She had dealt with crazier stuff than this.  She needed Clare to tell her what was going on.  She needed Clare to make it all stop, and give her her fucking life back.
**
Clare had arrived in ten minutes.  Before she could even sit down Amanda had unloaded everything.  Just as Amanda had expected, Clare didn’t remember Matt, but she also didn’t think Amanda was crazy.
“Someone is pulling people out of this timeline.  They are just… erasing whole existences.” Clare was shaking her head.  “That is some serious black magic there.”
“Does that mean Matt’s…” Amanda couldn’t finish the sentence.
“No. It means that he never even lived in the first place, at least in this timeline.” Clare bit her lip.  “We’ve talked about this before, after everything with Sumthak and your abduction. You remember what had happened, but for everyone else who hadn’t been involved it never even happened. There are multiple time lines, and it seems like someone is really trying to fuck this one up.”
