The highway looks just as
bad as the city, maybe worse. Cars are piled onto each other; the rotted
remains of the occupants are still strewn on the asphalt, or thrust through
shattered windows.
As we head downhill we
can see that several lanes are flooded with putrid brown water that bubbles in
the still bright mid-morning sun.
“We can probably make it
to Oak Park before sunset.”
Kay never stops walking
as she speaks.
“You sure this is the
right move? We have no idea what things are like out there.”
Doug is doing is best to
avoid a decayed, half eaten corpse.
He was right. The attack… no, it was an invasion, happened
so fast that not even the news could react.
We had no idea how far
this spread, or even where it started.
I suddenly realized how
terrified I was.
We were walking into an
even greater unknown then our lives in the city had been.
