Just as Kay had
predicted, we had made it to Oak Park before sunset.
The town, which bordered
the city, looked almost untouched.
It seemed like a relic of
a time long past.
The streets were
deserted, as expected, but there were no bodies.
The buildings, while
dark, appeared whole.
It looked as if everyone
had just vanished.
A lawn mower sat on a
lawn, a postman’s bag sat next to a mailbox.
There were no signs of
violence.
It was as if a switch had
been flipped, and everyone had just vanished.
Nora spotted a
playground, and she tugged my hand.
“Can we?”
Maybe tomorrow, I tell
her.
We needed to find shelter
first.
